Investing in Early Talent: Partnering with Capital Group on Early Career IT Programs

One of the most rewarding aspects of our work is partnering with organizations that not only talk about values but also live them every day. Capital Group is a powerful example of what it looks like when a company invests deeply in people, creates an inspiring culture, and builds programs that set early career hires up for long-term success.

Since 2022, we have had the privilege of supporting the EDGE Associate Program, designed for early career IT hires. What makes EDGE so impactful is its balance of technical training with professional and leadership skills that associates carry with them throughout their careers. Our content in the program is built around six immersive learning sprints:

  • How to be successful as an associate – building a personal brand and mastering foundational skills such as organization, networking, and managing relationships
  • Communication fundamentals – strengthening communication styles and empathy strategies
  • Establishing credibility in the workplace – building trust, rapport, and stakeholder engagement
  • Managing expectations throughout the project – setting clear expectations, navigating pressure, and saying no with confidence
  • Decision-making and problem solving – breaking down complexity and making informed decisions even with limited data
  • Co-authoring your career after the program – taking ownership of growth, setting long-term goals, and building a mindset of continuous learning

Johan Magnusson observes: The EDGE program doesn’t just build technical expertise — it equips associates with the tools to manage expectations, build credibility, and co-author their careers. These are skills that will stay with them for decades.”

Our sessions in the programs we support with Capital Group are all run virtually, so we create engaging content filled with activities and discussions to make the sessions come alive.

This partnership is not just about delivering content it’s about helping early career professionals unlock their potential in an environment that is values-driven, collaborative, and deeply invested in people. Capital Group makes that possible by creating programs that are both rigorous and supportive, and by bringing in participants who are passionate, curious, and ready to grow.

“The growth we see in each EDGE cohort is remarkable. Our associates arrive eager and curious, and by the end of the program, they consistently demonstrate more confidence, clarity, and purpose in their IT careers at Capital Group. Johan is an important partner in making this all possible,” says Valerie Killion, Senior Learning Experience Designer, Capital Group.

This year, we were also honored to help launch the Early Career Hire (ECH) Program for Capital Group’s Investment Operations. The “Starting Strong” curriculum provides new associates with the skills they need to thrive from day one, including:

  • Living Capital Group’s core values
  • Practicing professionalism from the start
  • Asking for help and leveraging support networks
  • Managing expectations and embracing feedback
  • Taking accountability and building strong relationships with managers

We leave every session inspired by the learners, by the culture, and by the opportunity to be part of something that will have a lasting impact on both individuals and the organization. Here’s to continuing this journey with Capital Group, building strong foundations, shaping future leaders, and investing in people who will make a difference for years to come.

A snapshot from one of our classes where we highlight the importance of asking the right questions before saying “Yes” to a task – making sure that we don’t assume, overlook details, or create problems down the line.

In Johan Magnusson’s words: “As a trainer, it’s incredibly rewarding to see associates not only learning but also applying these skills immediately. You can feel the long-term impact this investment in people will have.”
